Taking that as his cue, Sasuke eagerly returned the hug, resting his cheek against the top of the child’s head. He wasn’t as fluffy as he normally was but it was still the same loving personality that had Sasuke hugging him back.

Without really being sure how he ended up there, the child sat on Sasuke’s lap, arms now loosely around his neck and resting against his shoulder. Boss smiled to himself, eyes closed and just generally enjoying being paid attention. Today had been a good  day, certainly. And it was only lunchtime!

…At this thought, Boss’s stomach growled loudly. He hadn’t actually eaten lunch yet. Or breakfast. The child whimpered softly at the hunger pangs he would never get used to.

“Hungry?” he asked surprisedly, raising an eyebrow at the boy as he pulled back slightly to look at him. His expression was soft, not at all intimidating like it usually was.

Boss nodded, moving his arms away from his friend to wrap around his own stomach. He figured it was a fair trade, being able to hug people back in exchange for having to deal with pain he couldn’t feel in his fox body. Luckily, he wasn’t the prideful type that minded being dependent on others, and had a natural moe-ness that lead them to actually want to help him.

“Wait.. you’re the fox?” Sasuke asked, grinning so uncharacteristically it almost hurt. He almost wanted to tackle the small boy, cuddle him into oblivion like he did the last time they’d met, but decided against it, not wanting to scare him.

Boss nodded once more, suddenly remembering having met Sasuke before. He really liked the man, he was nice! And so, that decided it. Boss nearly tackled him, wrapping his skinny arms around the other male n what could only be described as a glomp.

“I haven’t seen that cute little fox running around in quite awhile.. you ever see him? He hangs out with Pan a lot,” he asked, figuring it was best to stick with yes or no questions since Boss seemed to be able to answer those easily.

Boss raised his head off his knees to nod enthusiastically, beaming at being called cute. He tapped his chest once, since Sasuke seemed to understand gestures pretty well. Maybe exploring had been a good idea, after all!

“Of course not…” Sasuke muttered to himself with a sigh, eying the boy carefully as he walked over towards the bed, sitting at the foot of it as he watched the child. He was so innocent, it was adorable. Pan should act like this more often, it would certainly ad appeal to his personality, in Sasuke’s opinion.

Bright eyes watched him back, unafraid. The glaring that Boss had come to believe was habitual was finally letting up a bit, or he was just becoming used to it. Now the ninja was more curious than scary. Boss tilted his head to the side very slightly, wondering why the teen was looking at him like that. The fox wasn’t very good at reading expressions or body language, except of course Pan’s. So he wasn’t really sure what he was thinking when he stopped talking.

Sasuke furrowed his eyebrows for a long moment, trying hard to figure out what the boy was trying to tell him. It didn’t take too long, however, for him to realize something important. “You can’t talk. Can you write?” he asked, hopeful to figure out who this boy was.

Boss shook his head mournfully, unable to read or write. He didn’t see why it mattered, either. It was just a nickname, after all, and even if it was a real name, why did it matter? Without bothering with permission, the child went to go sit on the bed, back against the wall and arms wrapped around folded up legs. His eyes just peeked over his knees, watching the stranger.

“Right… then who are you?” he asked, still unaware that the young boy couldn’t speak. He relaxed a bit, the boy hardly seeming to be a threat as he stepped aside, ushering Boss to come in.

Obeying the gesture with some relief that he wasn’t in trouble, Boss took a step out of the doorway. Finally, the child looked up, giving Sasuke a pleading look straight out of a Charles Dickens novel. He lightly touched his throat in what could either be interpreted as an inability or unwillingness to speak.

Sasuke stared down at the small boy, far too humble to be Pan, but then who? He had never seen Boss when Boss was in Pan’s body, so he wasn’t really able to identify him as such. “…You’re not Pan, are you?” he asked, not knowing the fox couldn’t speak.

Boss shook his still bowed head, shifting his small weight from side to side. Don’t ask why Sasuke’s near-permanent scowl made him uncomfortable when the same trait didn’t bother him with Ichigo. The poor fox still didn’t know if he was in trouble for some unperceived wrongdoing, but at least the teen caught on quickly.

Sasuke perked up, hearing his door open. He had just been lying on his bed, his arms folded behind his head before this sudden visitor arrived. “Pan?” he asked, surprised to see the small boy, not yet realizing that this was really Boss.

Boss jumped a little in surprise, not having seen the teen before. He tried to remember if they had met but, honestly, all these humans were starting to look the same. It was a lot easier to remember them if they had some distinct feature, like orange/blue hair or a large chest. Sasuke had none of these. He just looked pissed all the time.

Snapping back from his thoughts, Boss bit his lip and looked down shyly. What was he supposed to do? He had no idea it was bad to sneak into other people’s rooms, but the owner didn’t really look thrilled to see him.

Boss the fox decided (after playing with Nikko and a looong nap) to go exploring inside the dorm building. Finding one of the doors not completely closed, the little animal pushed against it until it cracked open just enough for him to slip inside. It was Sasuke’s room, and one may recall the last time a fox was here, the teen was jacking off. Maybe it will go better for Boss than it had Pan?

Ichigo was taken back slightly. Not only was it the amount of teachers they’d gained that surprised him, but the fact his father was one of them. That was kinda awkward, actually. He pitied Pan a bit. Though, he had to remind himself that his dad might be a little bit more sane then his own. “Wow.” He finally replied, realizing he’d stopped talking and had drifted into his own thoughts. “So many.. And your dad? How did that work out?”

“Better than I thought was possible, but that didn’t take much.” Pan muttered, more to himself. “And Time happened to send him from before the second time we met, so he really doesn’t know what’s going on. Or most of what happened before Zakar, so long as everyone manages to keep their mouth shut…Wait, you have no clue what I’m taking about, do you?” It was hard to keep track of who knew what, but in retrospect it was safe to always assume Ichigo knew virtually nothing. Oops.

Ichigo nodded, a bit awkward with the so casual conversation after so long. He wasn’t that good with small talk. “Time?” It was out of his mouth before he could hold it back. He chewed on his lip, looking at the boy. Instead of continuing a full spree of questions, he simply shook his head. “Hungry? We could go find some food and catch up.” It would be more comfortable then standing in the hallway.

“Yeah, like Life, but even more strange.” Pan glanced back at the mostly closed door. “Yeah, sounds good. Just give me a second, ok?”

Not 2 minutes later, Pan reappeared, looking a good deal more presentable than he had before and a fifty dollar bill in his pocket. Kyousuke always had money, even on Grey, and the boy didn’t question how. “Sorry. Where to?” He asked, starting towards the door to the outside world. Pan had some questions of his own, and hadn’t eaten all day.
